What a wonderful long weekend this has been. London from Thursday to Sunday. Great lunches, dinners, shopping and actually a proposal on top of it all. I returned to Norway as an engaged woman!
Read my travel journal below to get tips for hotels, shopping and dining in this great city of London.
***THURSDAY***
Hotel Check-in
South Kensington is a great place to book a hotel. Away from the worst tourist masses, but still cooking with it’s small cafés and museums near by. If I had to choose another hotel in South Kensington, it would be The Regency Hotel. However, I had such a great experience at The Blakes, I am definitely staying there the next time I travel to London.
Since my bofriend had a hidden agenda for this trip, he secretly upgraded our room to the luxury suite. It was very nice, with two balconys, and entrance to the hotel’s rooftop terrace.
Dinner
Asian style at Nobu. Great place for people who are being introduced to sushi and sashimi, because everything taste heavenly. I reccomend the eight course tasing menu.
***FRIDAY***
Breakfast
Eggs benedict and cappuchino at the hotel. Expensive.
Shopping & Around Town
Barbour jacket and some stationary at Harrods. Diptyque scented candles at Liberty. Navy suede Prada pumps at Selfridges. The huge Topshop store at Oxford Sircus provides cute dresses and statement pieces that you might want to spend less money at because it will be out of fashion next year.
Lunch
The Wolseley is the perfect lunch place to get a break in the middle of shopping. They have OK food, but great people watching. I reccomend to book a table beforehand.
Dinner
We celebrated our engagement at Hakkasan (Hanway Place). Try to show up at lest 30 minutes early so you can have a few drinks in the bare and absorbe the cool vibe. We were starving, but we have learned from our mistakes and only ordrered Dim Sum and 3 other small courses to share. It is more than enough!
***SATURDAY***
Breakfast
Wanted to try Muriel’s Kitchen, but always full. Ended up having sanwiches, pastries and great coffee at Paul in South Kensington.
Shopping & Around Town
Since yesteday was all about shopping, I let my fioncé have this day. We went to Tate Modern to see Damien Hirst, but it was impossible to get tickets. Note to self: Why am I so great at booking restaurants but not exhibithion tickets? Room for improvement. The giftshop at Tate is amazing for stacking up greeting cards and little presents though. Conclusion: The cultrual trip turned out to be a shopping spree after all.
Next stop was Leicester Square, lots of movie theatres there. We ended up tracking down a lunch place we had heard of instead.
Lunch
Rustic interiors at The Riding House Café. Great cheeseburger and chocolate sause covered sudae. Nice place to dicuss wedding ideas.
Dinner
Huuuuge Argentenian steaks at Gaucho Charlotte Street. Great drinks, but too much food. The best chocolate/hazelnut truffles I have evertasted.
***SUNDAY***
Breakfast
At Paul again, see comments from Saturday’s breakfast.
Shopping
Since it is the Queens Diamond Jubilee this year, I had to get a box off Twinings special blend for my tea box collection.
Lunch
Lunch and wedding magazines in the airport lounge at Heathrow.
Dinner
At home in my own appartment. Weird to cook again.
